Former Steeler Josh Scobee retires from the NFL

The relationship between the Pittsburgh Steelers and kicker Josh Scobee was a long one, but it had enough drama that his retirement announcement deserves a mention here. According to reports, including this one by Brent Martineau of CBS in Jacksonville, Scobee will return to the Jaguars for one day to retire as part of his original team.

The Steelers traded for Scobee back in 2015 after losing their first two kickers to injury. First is was Shaun Suisham followed by Garrett Hartley, but Scobee didn’t fare much better. He will forever be known as the guy who missed two field goals in a Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Those two misses were so bad that head coach Mike Tomlin

Those two misses were so bad that head coach Mike Tomlin chose not to let Scobee attempt a 50-yard game winner in overtime only to watch Ravens kicker Justin Tucker hit a 52 yarder to win the game. He was subsequently replaced by Chris Boswell. It was then discovered after that Scobee actually tried to play that game injured.
